FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Red Baron Pizza Squadron joins 1,100 pilots nationwide For Immediate Release -- Between August 11 and September 11, 2002, Flight Across America is bringing pilots from every state in the U.S. together to celebrate aviation and honor those fallen in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. “Flight Across America is a grassroots effort to bring pilots together to show citizens across the U.S. how important aviation is to this great country,” said Randy Brooks, Squadron Operations Manager for Red Baron. “Aviation and her brave pilots have brought the nation some of its greatest moments of celebration. Beginning in 1903 with the Wright Brothers famous first flight at Kitty Hawk, then Lindbergh’s important trans-Atlantic flight 75 years ago and culminating when a pilot, Neal Armstrong, walked on the moon. The Red Baron Pizza Squadron is proud to fly historic WWII aircraft and be part of the Flight Across America celebration.” “Pilots can choose to fly a short local flight, or longer flights across states or even coast to coast,” said Molly Peebles, Flight Across America Executive Director. “We have an opportunity to bring people together across the country to do something that has never before been done.” The Red Baron Pizza Squadron joins over 1,100 pilots across the country as they take off and land from every airport in the country between August 11 and September 11, 2002. Flight Across America will form a web of flight paths to blanket the country over the event’s 32 days, ending in New York City. The Red Baron Pizza Squadron is made up of eight professional aerobatic pilots with a total of over 75,000 flying hours combined. The Squadron consists of six Boeing Stearman biplanes, all built between 1941 and 1943. The Stearman biplane was built originally as a WWII training plane, to prepare U.S. Army and Navy pilots. The Stearman biplane is the most respected primary trainer in the military – more pilots have trained in a Stearman than any other airplane. Each pilot is an employee of Red Baron Pizza and serves as a spokesperson for the brand through school visits, grocer visits, media interviews and promotional plane rides.
