Overview

The Flight Across America is a grassroots effort to inspire the nation by reinvigorating the spirit of aviation and reigniting the belief in possibility that flows throughout aviation’s courageous history.

Beginning on August 11, 2002 and continuing through September 11, 2002, pilots across the United States will fly flights to demonstrate to a jaded public that aviation can indeed be a force for good.  The goal is to develop a virtual web of flights across the country, with an aircraft taking off and landing from each public airport in the continental United States.

Document your participation in this historic event by pre-registering your flights here on our web site.

This event consists of the following major portions:

Registered Flights

Flights flown by pilots to help spread a positive image of aviation.  Generally, flights will flow from the West towards the East, culminating in the New York City area September 7.  Document your participation by registering your flight on-line.

State Flags

In addition to registered flights, selected pilots from each of the fifty United States will fly their state flag to the New York City area.

On September 8, the flag bearers will fly their planes in a parade down the Hudson River, past ground zero and the Statue of Liberty.  Afterwards, the state flags will be presented to officials as a gift to the people of New York City.

Events

To spread the Flight Across America message, airports and aviation businesses are holding events open to the public and participating pilots during the Flight Across America.

Representative of these events is the opening ceremony at Snohomish County Airport Paine Field in Everett, Washington on August 11.  A pancake breakfast, provided by local firefighters kicks off the first Flight Across America flights.
