Texas Flag Bearer
John Campbell
IntroductionMy name is John Campbell, I want to start by saying Thanx to Molly and the FLAA staff for choosing me for the honor of Texas flag bearer. I have been involved in aviation my whole life, an actual instrument rated pilot for the past five years. My father and grandfather have been pilots both for the service and privately the majority of their lives. I own a Cessna Pressurized Centurion 210, and let me tell you, I have had a blast flying it. I've been from California to the Bahamas, over Cuba to Cayman, up to Canada, Washington DC. to Arizona and most all other states. This will be my first trip to NYC, and I am looking very forward to it. I live in the central Texas area, Burleson just on the outskirts of Fort Worth. I own several Collision shops in the Central Texas area. I also have a glass company as well as play around with used cars a little for airplane fuel. My hobbies are, of course, Aviation and Scuba Diving. I also like to go camping on occasions. I am married with a little girl, she just turned 4 in May 02. I want to say thanx to my wife Cyndi who doesn't care much for flying, unless it takes us to a nice Caribbean destination, for the help with obtaining FLAA sponsorship and publicity. My father will be joining me to NYC, he has been a Forth Worth Policeman for over 35 years. He retired a few years ago but went back to work at the sector helping around the office. He holds a special place in his heart for the victims, Police and Firefighters who gave their lives on 9-11-02 My father and I are proud Americans who love aviation and the freedom that goes along with it. On 9-11-01 Aviation was used against Americans as a weapon. We want to be a part of reclaiming our skies, and the freedom which accompanies it. We also want to pay our respects to those who lost their lives and loved ones last year on that dreadful day in September. My goal is to assist with Texas in the taking off and landing of all public airports in Texas. I ask EAA local chapters to help me accomplish this goal by 9-11-02. I have been spreading the word about FLAA on Radio, Television and Newspapers. I will be meeting with the AOPA president Phil Boyer Wednesday the 14th, to ask Texas AOPA members for their assistance. I will be attending the Aug. 21st picnic with Molly in Clovis NM. We will be leaving for the East on Sept. 5th. Our first stop will be Somerset, PA (2G9) to attend the flight 93 memorial from the FlAA Flag Bearers. Our next destination will be Fredrick, MD (FDK) to honor the Pentagon victims and to meet with Phil Boyer (AOPA) on Sept. 6th. September 7th brings the trip to Essex Co., New Jersey (CDW) for the tribute to NYC and hopefully the Caravan of flights from the 50 flag bearers down the Hudson, by the Statue of Liberty and over the Twin Towers on the 8th. We are looking forward to presenting our states flag to the city of New York on the USS Intrepid. John Campbell |
