South Carolina Flag BearerMark Houde
IntroductionI owe the honor of being selected as South Carolina flag bearer in part to Michael Bolton. No, not the singer but the fellow pilot and Camden resident who was initially selected by FLAA to fly the SC flag to NY. Michael's business, Just a Hobby Farm, is more than just a hobby and a schedule change prevented him from making the trip. In the aftermath of 9/11 the overriding thought of many in our nation was "what can we do to help?". South Carolinians responded with their hearts, prayers and wallets. Most notable was the fund raising effort put forth by the students of White Knoll Middle School in Lexington, SC. Over $520,000 was presented to the NYFD to replace a fire truck destroyed on 9/11. I'm honored to represent the state of SC and the SC aviation community. As a pilot I'm grateful to Flight Across America's founder Molly Peebles and all of the FLAA volunteers. My wife, Yvonne and I operate a team sports photography business in Camden, SC. We have a daughter Morgan who is five years old. Five Mike Delta, a '63 Skylane with a child seat in the back has been our "family wagon" for about six years. I've been a pilot since '89 (Inst, Comm, SEL) and Morgan has been flying since she was six weeks old. I'll make the trips to Somerset, Frederick and Caldwell solo while Yvonne runs the business and Morgan starts school. Fly Safe,
