Nebraska Flag Bearers

State Flag of Nebraska

Jon and Patty Enevoldsen

Introduction

Greetings from the Heartland of America. This is Jon and Patty Enevoldsen and their 1953 Cessna 170. We are the flag bearers for Nebraska. I am a Captain with Lincoln Fire & Rescue in Lincoln, Nebraska and have dedicated the last 27 years to the citizens of Lincoln as a career firefighter. My wife, Patty is a recruiter/trainer for a national mortgage insurance company. To some, Nebraska is only miles of flat land and farm fields. Physically our state may be that, but like you, there is so much more to us than the external first impression. Like you, Nebraskan’s love for God and country is our foundation and that is what has drawn us to the Flight Across America.

My love affair with flying is long and varied. It began with a private pilot’s license at the age of 18. Then it stopped for a while after my military service as a crewmember of a C-141 in Southeast Asia. In the 1980’s, I resumed my flying and became a part-time commercial pilot and flight instructor while continuing my career as a firefighter. I have even tried my hand at building a kit plane, but it’s not quite finished. We fly our Cessna 170 from the Crete Airport (CEK), which is located southwest of Lincoln.

Like all people, I can be summed up by the things I love. I love Jesus, first. I love my family and my country. I love my profession as a firefighter, and I love to fly.

We are thankful to be part of this memorial effort to honor the sacrifice of our fellow country men and women. None of them started that fateful day wanting to be a hero. Like them, none of us know when we will be asked to give that last full measure of service. Our hope is that all Americans resolve the question of their eternal destiny, so that we, as a people, can boldly live our lives in a free country.
